Through my art practice, I attempt to identify the fleeting moments that position myself in both time and space. In acknowledging the passing and the specificity of a particular point in time and space, I am recording not only my existence but also the imperceptible moment between the present and past. As these “moments” constantly wash over me, they are acknowledged, contemplated and diarised through my process of drawing.

The objective of my research is to gain a greater understanding of the quantitative and qualitative experiences of time, space and perception through further study into the fields of science, philosophy, anthropology and spirituality. With a greater understanding of the different theories around time, space and perception, it is my goal to further inform the methodology of my art practice.

I am fascinated by how our understanding of time has evolved through different stages of human evolution. In western civilisation the observation and subsequent mapping of the solar and lunar cycles begins our division of the lunar year, which leads to the creation of the calendar year, which leads to creation of the month, the day, the hour, the minute, the second, the nanosecond, etc. With a greater understanding of how we have experienced time through the history of human evolution, it is possible to see how we have become increasingly entangled in our observation of it. However, through my research and through a greater understanding of the physics of time, I will attempt to show the individuality or each of our experiences within time. The phenomenology of time, the ineffable experience of engaging with the passing of time and the arbitrary nature of time. Identifying and exploring the intersections between science and spirituality (as I define it) and art.
